A third culture kid growing up in both the East and West, 21-year-old hyejin spent her formative years adapting to ever-changing environments, which cultivated her fixation towards the only thing that remained constant in her life: her love for writing. Inspired by the brutally honest, intimate songwriting of Amy Winehouse and SZA, hyejin combines her anti-romantic, slightly pessimistic lyricism with sticky-sweet melodies, embarking on an infectious blend of sonic nostalgia with a dreamy twist.  

Her independently released debut EP, WHAT A SHAME!, has quickly ammased a cult following, garnering over 8 million streams and charting on Spotify’s Viral 50 and Viral Hits. Currently a student at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, hyejin continues to push new sonic boundaries with her latest singles, offering a glimpse into the maturity and growth she intends to showcase in her highly anticipated debut album.

Despite her humble beginnings and recent debut, hyejin leaves a lasting impression. Her determination to challenge the status quo of Asian American representation, and to prove a point: the song comes before all else.
